Young Meadowlarks on Barb Wire

A photo from last summer of young meadowlarks and bunting larks together on the barb wire fence....

I always wait to hear that "first song of the meadowlark" on the fencepost in early spring!

My dad would always tell all of us when he heard the first one, and if I was outside with him, we'd stop and listen to their song, he would then whistle back to them, mimicking their song...then, the meadowlark would "change" it's song...and so it went! He said it was one of the only birds he noticed would change.

Try as I might, I never could whistle....so, the meadowlarks now, sing whatever they wish...and I just listen and enjoy!

Wishing you a great day.
