1st Annual Wine & Art Walk

Wine & Art Walk  work by MLL Wine & Art Walk    work by MLL The First Annual Wine and Art Walk held in Bowman, attracting over 140 people who spent time in many of the businesses downtown which showcased art from various artists then arriving at the Bowman Lodge convention room where other artists were set up with their works. I was honored to be a part of the first show and look forward to the next group of artists that will be showcased next year. I had a blast, was so good to see so many great friends and collectors from the Gallery days, we had a lot of laughs and fun. It was also nice to meet new people that have moved into our area . It is great to see the arts and culture embraced in our area! Thank you to those that put it together, I think next year it will be even bigger, nice to see success! Wine & Art Walk - lots of laughs!

A quote from a viewer of my art....

I had to share a quote from a viewer of the blog that wrote these kind words about the painting "Alley Shuffle"...what an honor to have someone take the time to write these words...       " Your paintings are always in perfect motion. If I sit still enough, I hear a few seconds around the moment you've so seamlessly captured. It's usually the quiet ambient sound of how I imagine your distant world, but today I'm absolutely relishing the thud of those hooves. Thank you for sharing."    Julie Alley Shuffle

Mule Deer Doe & Twin Fawns - Set of 2 Oil Paintings

****(This is a set of two original oil paintings approx 26x30 each, framed - to be hung together as a set, the doe to the left, the twin fawns right and slightly higher to create the atmosphere I saw them in.)     I took the photos, put them on my computer and immediately started to lay them out while still fresh in my mind...the doe in front of the fawns, in a motherly protective stand....the fawns relaxed and grazing....I started the paintings immediately to recall the smell of the late green lush cool grasses tangled into the dry fall grasses and late alfalfa growth.    "I have watched this doe with her split ear raise twin fawns two years in a row....last year I was fortunate enough to be able to get some photographs of her and her older twins in the late fall ** (this year I took another set of photos of her young twins this year still with spots on) ...stay tuned." The framing is heavy profile with burled colors of darks and medium tones with black edge with o

The Power of Balance is headed to Arkansas! Art of the Heartland Show

The Power of Balance Oil 11x14 by Marsha Lehmann The Power of Balance has been juried into the Art of the Heartland Show in Mena, Arkansas. I'm very pleased to be a part of this fine show put on by the SouthWest Artists. Making this even more special is to be juried into the show by the renown artist Andre Pater- here is the info about him, I am truly honored. The awarding juror is the world renowned sporting artist, Andre Pater, considered by the international art community to be the greatest in the sporting art field since Alfred Munnings.  Andre Pater is considered to be the heir to the artistic throne vacated when the revered Munnings died.   As affirmation of that genius, the London exhibit sold out the over 30 paintings offered, to a huge, enthusiastic crowd in only 21 minutes.  At a Sotheby’s Sporting Art sale, an Andre Pater pastel set the record for a non-oil work by a living artist.

A Photo at Sunset....

Coming from a fun evening photographing an enthusiastic group of young people at a Youth Rodeo, I had to stop and turn around to take this photo - it was taken north of Buffalo, South Dakota. Rugged beauty - I've always been fascinated with the hills in this area...and I was blessed to happen by at that exact moment. I hope you enjoy as well. Have a great weekend. photograph by MLL  August 2016

Harvey Rattey - 1938-2015 One of the great western artists....

Harvey Rattey  NDHSRA Finals, Bowman ND  2010 Harvey Rattey, fellow artists and collectors It is with much sadness I post this about a wonderful western artist and a truly good man. I learned today that Harvey Rattey, Glendive MT Sculpture passed away Dec. 7. I was recommending Harvey and his wife Pamela Harr, another wonderful artist for an interview, knowing their rich life they have led from Bozeman to their ranch at Glendive, would be a great read when I learned he had passed. We met Harvey at the Prairie Skies Art Show & Auction held by

Miles City Quick Draw - Miles City Bucking Horse Auction

photo by Marshall Haferkamp used with permission The middle of May I did the Quick Draw at the Miles City Bucking Horse Auction for the Art Center in Miles City, MT. If you haven't seen the Art Center, be sure to check it out, they really have a first class museum with some outstanding work from all over Montana. The quick draw was 30 minutes with a horn blowing at start and finish, it was a privilege to participate, there were many talented artists and some serious bidding happening.  I'd like to thank the collectors who purchased my work as well, it was fun meeting them, seeing their grandchildren. The collector is very involved in children's issues in Montana, so the quick sketch "That'll Be Me Someday" resonated with she and her husband.

I Wanna Be Like You

There has been a lot of interest in this painting in the last few days....today is the anniversary of the day we lost our dad, forever changing our lives...I was lucky that I was able to trot alongside my dad alot of the time...all I wanted to be was a cowgirl! Thus why I paint what I do and why certain things capture my attention. Here is what I wrote about the painting when I did it a few years ago.  "What caught my attention about this scene was the compassion between the two figures,” says Marsha Lehmann, “Daddy’s gentle hand just barely holding on, but balancing, with patience in his steps so small and the little buckaroo with head held high, ready to take on anything in life with the confidence gained from a father’s hand…. I titled this piece I Wanna Be Like You—at first glance it seems obvious that the little one wants to be like Dad, but sometimes as adults we long for our childhood faith.”   I Wanna Be Like You by Marsha Lehmann At the right of this blog the
