GRANDMA'S ATTIC

"Grandma's Attic" This oil painting is one of five paintings that won People's Choice Award consecutive years at the Prairie Skies Art Show & Auction that was held at the Ramada Inn, Bismarck, ND.  The Art Show & Auction was started by a wonderful promoter of the arts, Nola Helm, (a former Bowman native) for the ND Nurses Association. It was a great show, with a quick draw, artist's exhibit rooms, and a live auction. We met so many people through that show that we still keep in touch with today. Nola went on to do another similar art show in Nevada, which I also participated in. The idea for the painting came from memories I had of being at my grandmother's home in Minnesota.  First of all, the raggedy ann dolls were borrowed to me from a good friend who collected them, they were wonderful to work with, where you sat them, they stayed! I propped them on an old trunk that belonged to Rob's great aunt Nita and sat them up against an o

Checking the Cows....

"Checking The Cows" Original Oil on Board This is a small painting - loose brush strokes to indicate deep snow and blowing snow- cool tones with vertical warms...I intended by cropping the pole, the eye would follow down the pole, to Rob, then sideways to Sam and travel along the panels back in a triangle... A side story to the painting, I worked from a photo taken a few years ago at the start of calving time...we had a few years of alot of moisture during calving...this was taken on one of those years. I'm posting this today to wish my best friend a blessed birthday ... Happy Birthday Rob! Checking The Cows 8x10 Original Oil on Board

SPIT SECOND...bullfighters and bulls...and a young bullrider

Things could go one way or the other....in a split second...depending on the quickness of the bullfighters.......it seems as though everything is frozen on pause....the bullfighter with one foot off the ground, the bull with a foot in the air, the cowboys on the fence...even the

Sheila Rieman Retrospective at BAGA

Retrospective of Sheila Rieman, Sentinel Butte, ND artist's work at BAGA in Bismarck, ND- BAGA  link is at bottom of page The Opening Reception is Friday, January from 5-7.  I think this will be a unique opportunity to see our friend's wonderful work, her work was collected throughout the US, however, in ND, as I said, this may be a unique showing.  As artist friends, we would like to see a permanent collection of her work in ND, as of now, as far as I know, there isn't one.  You can see by the painting of the elk that Pete is holding...what quality there will be, I have not seen that piece, all I can say is wow, you knocked it out of the park again Sheila! (article compliments of Bismarck Tribune) Rieman Retrospective at BAGA Pete Novotny holds one of Sheila Rieman's last paintings in Bismarck Art & Galleries Association's main gallery on Friday afternoon. Novotny delivered a number of Rieman's works to BAGA where a ret
